This limited edition giclee print on museum grade archival paper is a reproduction of a pencil drawing by Ellie Coates.
This piece is from a series of works based upon the Medusa myth that Ellie produced for Antlers Anatomy show in July 2011. According to Greek mythology, Chrysaor was the son of Medusa and Poseidon, conceived in the temple of Athena. Ellie works from her memory of myth, rather than sticking too closely to the original myth, Ellie embellishes and alters, allowing her own imagination free reign when bringing these ancient stories to life through her work.
Through the work of Ellie Coates the viewer is invited into the timeless world of story telling. Combining inspiration drawn from myths, folklore and Renaissance painting she creates the props with which to encourage the imagination of the viewer to weave the narrative.
Ellie graduated with a First Class degree in Drawing and Applied Arts at the University of the West of England.
